“Pediatric Printing”
RSLS 2025 – May 22; 2:00-3:00PM
Abstract:
This presentation will focus on discussing the current and hypothetical uses for 3D printing in medicine. It will explore how decentralizing the production of medical resources can help stop the lack of access and abusive overcharging that the international medical industry practices on society’s most vulnerable people. To illustrate potential applications, I will be drawing on my personal experience of 3D printing tourniquets to send to the front lines of Ukraine in 2022, and 3D printing a prosthetic arm. Children are disproportionately affected by limited access to prosthetics, as out of the estimated 57 million people living without a limb worldwide, over 55% are children, despite only making up 25% of the global population. I will wrap up by listing a few different organizations to donate/volunteer for.
